Legal Opinions on Direct Petitions

The Friends of Lakeside Park are committed to giving voice to the people of the city of Fond du Lac.  Our petition effort is a result of listening to the people in our community.

We believe the people of Fond du Lac should have a say in the future of their public spaces.  Our direct petition is meant to give every eligible voter in the city a voice.

As part of this effort, we engaged Mary Beth Peranteau, of the law firm, Wheeler, Van Sickle and Anderson SC.   Mary Beth has guided us through this process.  She wrote the ordinances that are on our petitions.

On September 22nd, we released the legal opinion she wrote for us in response to the placement of our petition ordinances on the City Council agenda for the 23 September 2020 meeting

We turned in the Lakeside Point Island petitions on September 23, 2020.  One week later, on September 30, 2020 we turned in the Oven Island petitions.

Our petitions are on the City Council agenda for the October 14th City Council meeting.  Ms Peranteau has written additional analysis about the validity of our direct petition action.
