City Council Considers Protection for our Park

City Council Considers Protection for our Park

April 25, 2022

At the next City Council Meeting, this Wednesday, April 27th, Joe Moore will make a presentation about Council Initiatives.  Included in this list is the following:

What does this mean?

We all know that the process used in 2020 to advance the Alternative Masterplan was flawed.  Citizens did not like what was proposed in Lakeside Park for a large variety of reasons. We were shut out from the decision making process by our elected representatives.  We need to prevent this from ever happening again in our city.

It is possible to pass an ordinance that requires citizen input in the form of a referendum or at least makes that avenue available to the citizens.  The 920 petition process that took place in 2020 would have enacted an ordinance that would have forced a referendum under certain circumstances.

As the bullet point says, “the legal research and the course of action development are prepared.”  We are thrilled to see the Council working on a protection that the citizens tried to enact in 2020.  We welcome open and detailed discussion on how to move forward and give our citizens a voice in what happens in our park.

You can watch the meeting online by clicking HERE  or on the button below.   The meeting starts at 6pm

Lighthouse Drive Reconstruction Project

April 24, 2022

We are sad to report that the Capstone project has been cancelled.  We are grateful for the enthusiasm the Capstone initially brought to the project and the conversations that were facilitated.

With the halt to the Capstone project, City Staff has been busy working on a plan for reconfiguring the walking paths and parking on Lighthouse peninsula.  A draft plan has been released and will be presented at the Advisory Parks Board Meeting on Monday, April 25th starting at 5:30pm.

You can see the plan above.  A larger copy of the plan can be downloaded by clicking HERE or on the photo above. cance

Your input is essential as we consider changes in our park.  The meeting agenda shows that audience comments will be after the presentation.  You can comment at the meeting in person OR by attending virtually.   Virtual instructions are given below for joining on your computer or by phone.  Remember that you will be commenting on Item D Lighthouse Drive Reconstruction Project.
